Компресор в холодильнику є головним елементом конструкції і призначений для стиснення та
циркуляції холодоагенту у системі. Він відкачує пари холодоагенту з випарника і нагнітає в конденсатор,
де вони охолоджуються та конденсуються. Далі холодоагент у вигляді рідини відправляється через
фільтр-осушувач та капілярний трубопровід знову у випарник. Таким чином цикл повторюється.

Найпоширенішими типами компресорів є поршневі, ротаційні, спіральні, відцентрові та гвинтові. У
побутовому холодильному устаткуванні найчастіше використовуються поршневі.

Компресор холодильника має герметично запаяний корпус і важко ремонтується. Частіше за все при
виході з ладу несправний компресор замінюється на новий.
